The treatment of oral cancer depends on the type and staging of it. The determination of staging depends on the cancer size, infiltration to lymph node other parts of the body. Pre-existing diseases like hypertension, diabetes, etc are considered in the treatment of oral cancer. Pre-existing conditions like OSMF, leukoplakia, erythroplakia, lichen planus, and bad habit like smoking, tobacco consumption affect treatment. Therefore, it is necessary to take proper care while treating them. The success of treatment depends mainly on the early detection of oral cancer.


It is an effective method of management of oral cancer in which one centimeter of cancer tissue is removed. The lymph node is also removed from the throat and reconstruction is followed. Various rehabilitation methods are required post-operation and help the patient to speak and eat properly.


Radiation therapy is usually performed post-operation in case, margins are not cancer-free or there is infiltration in the lymph node. The faculty is available at KGMU,  RML, SGPGI. Sometimes, chemotherapy is given along with radiotherapy.


The method is commonly used in situations like over developed tumors or along with surgery and radiotherapy.
